Before and After

January 25, 2010

Wedding photographers quite often go into homes and places site unseen. As a result, you have to be able to think fast and know how to get the shot at the best angle with the best lighting.
This is just one of many reasons why you should never decide on a wedding photographer on price alone. Experience and expertise needs to account for something.

Here is an example of one of my grooms (cutie patoo-tie Mike) from a wedding I photographed in September. The room was very tiny where he and 3 others were getting dressed. The before shot shows the tungsten lit hall way; not an ideal place to photograph someone. However, with the right eye, angle and white balance composition, you can end up with this after shot.

Favorites from 2009

Favorite Wedding Photographs from 2009

I finally found the time to blog about my favorites from the past wedding season. I am very happy with the images but even more thrilled about the emotions I captured between two people. To me this is what it is all about. There are some really great wedding photographers in the Ottawa area that have technical knowledge when taking pictures, but do they capture the essence of the relationship between a bride and a groom or a bride and her father? When choosing your photographer, look for this skill and you will be so happy with your wedding photographs. I would love to thank all of my brides and grooms from the past year for allowing me the pleasure of capturing their moments on one of the most important event of their lives. It was a honor and so much fun!

Westin Wedding Show | Ottawa

January 10, 2010

Westin Wedding Palace

Ottawa Wedding Show held January 9/10th, 2010 at the beautiful Westin Hotel

Wow what a weekend! I had a blast meeting all kinds of brides, bridesmaids, mothers and other vendors at this weekends Wedding Show. There were so many positive things about the show I can’t even begin to list them. I would like to give a big shout out to a few of the brides I met along the way: Natalie, Sara, Kim, Kathryn, Suzanne, Corey, Alison, Christina, Josee, Shauna and Candace. I spoke with so many others and talked about our photography services and I hope I get to meet with you again in the next coming few weeks when you secure your vendors for your upcoming wedding. If you are getting married this season and do not have your photographer yet, now is the time to email, set up a meeting and confirm. Alot of the premium spots have already been taken and you want to have as much choice about your photographer as possible. If you are a 2011 bride, it is never too early to book your photographer. Most of my brides book my services well over a year in advance.

I also can’t help but mention a few vendors that I met this weekend who blew me away with their personality, passion and skill.

First and foremost, Tulips and Maple : to quote their website…”That’s because we passionately believe that joy should be the main ingredient in any dish” AND Joy o Joy it is! I had BBQ Short Beef Ribs with an Asian Coleslaw that was absolutely to die for today! The chef was amazing, the presentation exquisite, and their service impeccable. Many cultures in Ottawa believe that food is a priority in their wedding. If it is in yours, then Tulips and Maple are your caterers.

Next on my sweet spot to mention is Strathmere. I cannot stress enough how much I love this venue. Everyone has a fav place to photograph and work with and this is mine. Lianna is wedding coordinator extraordinaire and will help your wedding come to fruition. The staff are friendly, highly organized, happy ALL the time and yes the food is amazing! I think I have had everything on their menu and all of it was fantastic. I adore the locations (3 onsite wedding areas) because of the opportunities to photograph. I have photographed there so many times and not one wedding is identical. It is truly unique. Call Lianna, set up an appointment and tell her Barb sent you.

Every bride needs some inspiration for their wedding and what better way than with a magazine that is all about Ottawa! Ottawa Wedding Magazine was created for couples planning their wedding in our Nation’s Capital. It is the must-have guide for the city’s brides to be as it provides all the information and options you need to make your dream of a wedding day come true. I don’t know about you, but I get frustrated when I purchase a magazine and all of the vendors/places are not in the city I am planning my event. That’s why I was super excited to find out that Ottawa brides need not wait anymore. I hope you got a chance to pick up their magazine. If not, you can browse through a virtual version by clicking HERE or by visiting the Bay or Home Outfitters gift registry section. They are FREE ladies…and this is such a concise and well developed magazine with a great layout. A big thanks to Coyle Publishing for being the brainchild behind this beautiful magazine.

Finally, I can’t help but recommend the services of Quality Entertainment for your Dj services. Over the years, I have come across many DJ’s. I can honestly say that I have been super impressed by the professionalism of Brian Henry’s Team. Not only are the staff well equipped and have virtually EVERY song you desire, they are super friendly, well spoken with a microphone and just plain old fun! I have personally witnessed how they can tranform a dance floor with the great choice of their songs. Highly HIGHLY recommended. I am a Martimer and love a great party and they would be the ones I call to make my wedding memorable.

Have fun all you brides! Remember, your wedding is unique like you are. It deserves to be preserved with photography and well documented. At the end of the day, all you have are your photographs!

A HUGE thank you to my associate photographer, Chandra. You are a dream, a great photographer, a blessing and a friend. You are the only woman I know who can photograph a wedding and give birth a few weeks later.

The event was covered by Metro Newspaper! and talk about how couples are ready to walk down the aisle in 2010 – they even mention my photography!

Email me girls to set up a consultation. Remember, your wedding deserves an artistic edge.
