Lindsay and Martin got married on a gorgeous summer day at Stanley’s Maple Farm. I must say, Lindsay is the Queen of DIY weddings! The items she created for her wedding were out of this world! There was so much to photograph and all of the ideas were perfect for the wedding. PLUS she had the cutest BCBG shoes!!! (yes I have a little shoe problem)

Photography Tip: Go up close! So often I see photos where the photographer has stood too far away from the item/people they are photographing. Get rid of that wasted space in the photo and move into your photo! It makes it more interesting and let’s people focus on what you had intended to photograph.
Wedding Tip: More and more couples are opting out of the traditional garter throw and “retrieval” and instead just doing the bouquet toss (or not at all). I must say it is kind of nice. It can get awkward when the groom removes the garter:) Another way to do away with traditionally throwing the bouquet, invite all the couples in the room to dance (slow), the DJ asks people who were married 5 yrs, 7 yrs, 10 yrs, etc. to gradually leave the dance floor. In the end, the couple who have been married the longest and left dancing get the bouquet (usually the grandparents).
Kim and Tom tied the knot at Orchardview on what was supposed to be a huge day of Thunderstorms, turned out to be a day we dodged the rain. Funny things always happen during weddings too…the groom (god love him) dropped the unity candle into the river. One of the guests saved the day and rescued it out after a few tries. However, the shot I got from it was priceless and something I think they will always look back on and remember:

Photography Tip: Some people with dslr’s always ask me “what is the best all round lens to take with me?” In my opinion, it should be one that covers the most varied situations – I would suggest a zoom that covers from near and far away. I use 70-200mm and I use it for 95% of each wedding. Of course, prices vary :0 However, if you want a specific lens for your camera, just give me a shout and I will help out.
Wedding Tip: ask your guests to enjoy your wedding ceremony “unplugged” – too many times guests think they need to get 1000 pictures of you during the vows. Do you know how many times I have witnessed a parent watch their child get married through a viewfinder? Frankly, I find it upsetting. BE IN THE MOMENT! Have your officiant asked guests to put away their cameras during the ceremony and enjoy the moment through their own eyes. If you do this, I guarantee you will get better pictures because I have had countless images ruined due to guests (aka Uncle Bob’s) walk in front of me to get their own shot, push me out of the way to get their own shot, or use their flash and ruin a shot I just took.
Cecilia and Jason had a beautiful wedding in the beginning of June:) What a wonderful couple and obviously meant for each other. As you may know I have a “slight” obsession with shoes and bling….and Cecilia did not disappoint. The day was wonderfully coordinated by Marry Me Productions and was flawless. The reception was held at the picturesque National Art Centre and wow! The food! Amazing Chefs at the NAC! Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from their wedding! Cheers!
Forgive me followers for I have been a bad, bad blogger Call it the winter blahs!!!!! Now that the weather is getting better, I have a renewed energy to blog about my fab winter weddings!
Jean and Raj got married in Kingston, Ontario this past February. I met them a year ago while I was down south photographing Bill and Tara’s destination wedding. Jean was a bridesmaid and Raj was my wonderful lightman!! They were a fantastic couple to hang with and work with. One of the interesting and great things about this wedding was the interfaith ceremonies. The Catholic ceremony took place in the morning and the Indian ceremony took place in the afternoon. Enjoy this quick slideshow of some of the highlighted images. Below the slideshow are two of my FAV FAV FAV images from the day.

Michaela and Marty were married with a winter wedding atmosphere at Strathmere and it was stunning! I love Strathmere in the winter {and any time of the year for that matter}. The tree inside the Lodge is fabulous and really brings a festive atmosphere to the event. Special thanks go out to Mariam of Top Marx who did a fantastic job planning this wedding – it was very well organized and the details looked amazing. Big shout out to Quality Entertainment who provided the music: you guys ROCK (and roll).
Congrats Michaela and Marty! Enjoy marital bliss!!!

Shooting in the dark of winter is tough. Really tough. But Melissa and Brad made it so easy! They were so amazing to work with and such troopers with the cold weather. Melissa spent at least 30 minutes in the snow with little white open toed shoes on! Hats off to her! It was easy to capture the love between this couple as well as their personalities. Melissa got ready at the Holiday Inn Select Kanata and their reception was at Loch March Golf and Country Club where the staff were wonderful and went above and beyond. Enjoy the slide show and peek below to view some of my favourite shots.
Flora and Mike got married on a beautiful, crisp, fall Saturday. They said their enthusiastic “I Dos” at Blessed Sacramentin the Glebe – and how I love Father Joe!
We then headed over the the Museum of Civilization for some pictures. This has to be one of my favorite spots to photograph because of the warmth of the stone, the reflection in the glass and the cool lines ofthe buildings. After we struck a pose, we landed at the Crowne Plaza for the night to celebrate in style. I have to give a big shout out to some peeps
…Flora and Mike: thanks for all your fabulousness and making the day full of fun and laughter
…Tia at the Crowne Plaza: always a pleasure and always well done!
… Chandra, second shooter extraordinaire…thanks for all that you do:) you are irreplaceable
…Lynn Lee (Weddings Unveiled) : WOW! Working with you was F-A-B! You are truly a fantastic planner, great at what you do and so well organized
Here is the latest beautiful couple from Barbara Ann Studios: Flora and Mike. Their wedding was at Blessed Sacrament in the Glebe and the reception held at the gorgeous Crowne Plaza, downtown Ottawa.

I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Ashleigh and Dave last weekend. I have to say, this couple is beautiful – both outside and inside AND their family and friends were such a blast to be around. We started off at the parents of Ashleigh (thanks Karen and Vic!)…after the ceremony (which was FULL of laughs and a few tears) we headed to The Manotick Mill. Our final destination brought us to the exclusive Ottawa Hunt Club Golf Course. WOW! What a venue…the grounds of the golf course certainly did not disappoint and the service was impeccable. Highly recommended. In case you missed it, here is the link to their engagement session last fall{Ashleigh & Dave Engagement}
Enjoy the slideshow and thank you from the bottom of my heart to Ashleigh and Dave who trusted me to capture this very special day. YOU DID IT GUYS!

Erinn and Matt had a magical day. The rain held off at just the right times. What was so fantastic about this wedding (besides the couple) was how beautiful everything came together. The venue was Saunders Farm and Angela and her team did an amazing job. The food was Tulips and Maple and OMG the Beef Martini was a HUGE hit! The girls started out at The SPA Day Retreat in Kanata on Castlefrank and they did a wonderful job on hair and make-up. As always, Quality Entertainment delivered some fresh and funky dance tunes and kept the dance floor packed constantly. Finally, I big shout out to Michelle Vandenbosch who transformed the Old Tree into a stunner of a backdrop and made the Reception look dreamy with her floral creations.
I mashed up the slideshow a bit differently this time and dove into the world of Fusion Weddings. I big shout out to Quinn Brown who delivered the video content – couldn’t have done it without his expertise. I think the results speak for themselves. Have a tissue on hand when you watch it folks:) Fusion Wedding Photography is exclusively offered by Barbara-Ann-Studios
